This is particularly notable for Wahoo and their KICKR CORE, which saw a price reduction to $599. Meaning, a $599 trainer becomes a $699 trainer – but now including 1-year of Zwift.

In the case of Zwift, that bundling takes the form of a $100/ €89/£89 upsell for all existing smart trainers/bikes. This announcement was part of the Wahoo Fitness settlement/partnership announcement, and included a number of other changes as well around pricing – such as the Wahoo also selling Zwift-bundled trainers on.

Of course, the writing was somewhat on the wall last week for this, when Zwift announced that *all smart trainers* sold on Zwift would be bundled with a year of Zwift. That first year being just $100 represents a savings of $80, as Zwift currently doesn’t offer an annual plan – only month to month at $15US/month (plus taxes). In effect, the only way to buy the Zwift Hub now is at $599 with a year of Zwift included. Left unsaid though was the fact that Zwift will no longer be selling the $499 standalone version of the Zwift Hub. However, buried as the last item in that press release was the announcement of a new Zwift Hub bundle, which includes 1-year of Zwift, for the price of $599/ €599/£549. In recent weeks we saw Zwift and Wahoo Fitness settle that lawsuit, as well as Elite and Wahoo Fitness, drop their pricing of trainers in that same price ballpark. That trainer set off a patent infringement lawsuit by Wahoo Fitness, as well as shifted the mindset in the industry on trainer pricing. However, arguably one of the most notable changes is actually that to the pricing of their Zwift Hub smart trainer, which launched a year ago at $499. All of which I’ll find some way to cover in due time.

Plus a number of other software-focused announcements.

Nonetheless, after the “Barbenheimer” marketing miracle this summer, studios are hoping to recreate at least some of that movie magic this fall.Today Zwift announced a slate of new software features for the upcoming season, including new roads in Watopia, Climb Portal updates, an entirely new methodology for racing categorization called Race Score, along with new features to take advantage of the Zwift Play hardware. With most production and promotion completely halted, titles like “ Dune: Part Two” and “Kraven the Hunter” vacated their spots on this season’s release calendar.Īdd to that yet another new uptick in Covid-19 cases, plus Taylor Swift announcing plans to release her surefire blockbuster “Eras Tour” film in the middle of October (which caused “The Exorcist: Believer” and other films to get spooked and move release dates) and it’s anyone’s guess how the fall film season will play out. There is, of course, the ongoing double whammy of twin Hollywood strikes, as contract negotiations between studios and streamers and writers and actors remain at an impasse. Traditionally, the doldrums of late summer give way to a mix of heady and prestige titles at the box office each autumn, as studios begin rolling out what they hope to be award-worthy contenders that also are popular enough to get people in theaters and make some actual money.īut this year is far from a traditional one.
